Varicose Veins : These are enlarged, dilated, elongated and purple-blue colored, “ropey” or entwined blood vessels, usually greater than 1 mm in diameter. They are due to the weakening or collapse of the veins and increased pressure within them. The color gives varicose veins their name, which is derived from the Greek term for “grapelike”.

Varicose veins can cause pain & fatigue in the legs and may even lead to some severe physical problems.

Spider Veins : Spider veins are close to the surface of the skin, caused by the dilatation & swelling of small blood vessels. These veins are often fed by other veins that are deeper under the skin, making it more difficult to treat them.

Broken Capillaries or telengiectasiasis: Capillaries are tiny blood vessels that connect arteries and veins. Body contains thousands of capillaries, over a period, number of them break and appear as red streaks or blotches. They commonly appear on the face, especially on the nose and cheek areas, the neck and chest areas above the neckline.

Broken capillaries are generally caused by aging, trauma, sun exposure, internal physical and certain lifestyle factors. While usually not physically harmful, they cause cosmetic problem.

Red Birthmarks : Birthmarks appear in a variety of sizes and are largely the result of abnormal pigmentation in the skin. Red birthmarks are caused by an excess of red pigment, with their color on the skin ranging from a dark maroon to fairly bright red. While birthmarks seldom lead to serious physical illness, they can be a definite burden on people who are born with them.

Port Wine Stains : These are red or purple blotches on the skin present since birth or may occur during early childhood. They may generally occur due to rupture of tiny feeder veins deep beneath skin. The symptoms are at the skin’s surface, the problem itself originates at a fairly deep subsurface level and can cause medical concerns, depending on its location and depth in the skin. Initially it is smaller in size, grows gradually and becomes progressively darker & thicker, changing the texture of the skin and becoming more difficult to treat.

Vascular Malformations : Some of the veins in our body may be malformed. However, when the number of malformed veins is excessive, and they begin to interfere with the vascular system’s ability to carry blood through the body, results into significant medical and cosmetic problems. Symptoms may include poor circulation, feelings of cold in the hands and feet, and purpled veins and blotches visible at or just below the skin’s surface.

Hemangiomas : It’s a type of vascular malformation, which is typically raised, protuberant lesions consisting of numerous dilated vessels which often appear within one month of birth. Approximately 10% of all babies are born with hemangiomas. There may be some regression during the first few years and by age of 12 years, 10% to 12% of hemangiomas remain as some kind of growing, expanding lesions. In adults, Cherry angiomas are the most common types of hemangiomas that appear as red, smooth projections.

Rosacea : Red, raised, pus-filled rash with broken blood vessels and swelling of skin oil glands on the mid-face especially involving nose and cheeks. More commonly occurring in females between 30 & 50 years of age and it is severe, when it occurs in males.

IPL & Long Pulsed Nd:Yag Lasers: Theseare the most modern and most effective high-tech tools in the arsenals of a dermatologist for the treatment of benign red & vascular lesions and birthmarks. Depending on the type of lesions, our expert dermatologist decides whether to use IPL or Long pulsed Nd:Yag laser in a particular person.

It is a simple, safe, painless, non-invasive, affordable, FDA-USA approved for the treatment of all types of skin, (Type I to VI) especially of Asians & blacks and can be performed in doctor’s clinic without anaesthesia or complications or side-effects. It require few minutes, thus it is truly a “lunch break” office procedure.

Vascular Care and Prevention Tips : Varicose and spider veins can be caused or made worse by spending a lot of time on your feet. The excessive exposure to sun may cause red broken veins or telengiectasiases on the face and other exposed areas of the body. If you are susceptible to these problems, try to limit your sun exposure. If your job or your life style require a lot of standing, walking or continuous sitting, then you should sit for a while and rotate your feet for several times and massage gently the calf muscles from ankle upwards to knee, alternately repeating for the other leg. You might also consider wearing special hosiery to help improve blood circulation of legs.
